Commissioned Portraits

Each portrait can take from fifteen to thirty hours to create, depending on detail and size. The larger the file gets, the more difficult it is to work with. However, since I keep my own schedule, I can charge a flat rate. Breaking it down to an hourly rate, you can see it's a pretty good deal for the customer. I only take on a few commissions per month.

It takes several weeks for a portrait to be completed, since I also have other work. Please keep that in mind if you are considering hiring me. If you need it done more quickly, perhaps as a gift — let's talk and I will try to work within your time window.

* Price does not include shipping. We can discuss the most cost-effective shipping for your needs.

* Price is for a painting with one subject (person or pet). Multiple subjects will be an additional cost.

* Other sizes available on request.

If you would like me to just make one of your photographs look more colorful or painterly — not create an original artwork — please contact me and we can discuss your needs and how much work would be involved.

Customer will be given a copy of the digital file. If ordered on paper or canvas, frame is not included — however, both paper and canvas will look great framed. Standard turnaround time for paper printing is one week and canvas printing is two weeks.

Printing is optional. You can also choose to have the artwork on CD mailed to you and handle the printing yourself. The cost of the CD and shipping would be about $5. The final files are too large for email.

A non-refundable deposit of one half of the fee is required before I begin painting. The balance is due on completion. I retain the copyright on commissioned fine artwork.

I will ask you for at least one photograph of your subject — several photographs would be best. They will be used for reference while creating the artwork. The more detail, the better. I am happy to work with digital images that are emailed if that's easier for you. I will also be asking you questions about how you'd like the painting to look, so feel free to share any ideas that you have before I begin working.
